For this shoot, I decided to photograph some
equipment used in the gym. I found this shoot had such good quality. The aim of the shoot was to do something without a model that showed power and strength. This shoot was based on the ideas portrayed in the work of Benjamin Von Wong. Similar to the progress shoots, I used harsh lighting and up close shots of the weights to capture as much detail as possible. I edited the images in a similar way to what I edited the images of the model with high contrast and highlights and shadows.
One of the most successful and effective images is the image that clearly shows the weight saying 'Body Sculpture'. I feel this is partly because of the attention to detail, the clarity in focus and the right level of exposure, but also because of the message given off from the image itself. I feel this is a powerful message that indicates the importance of how the body looks, as if when the bodybuilder is using these weights, this is what will be in his mind - body sculpture, and will essentially make him/her question their body and more than likely work harder. I feel the editing also reflects this idea, with harsh tone, high contrast creating an intense feel too. I felt like the use of composition in this shoot was mainly using the rule of thirds. I also felt different points of focus was important and give a harsh and intense feel.
