ISABELLA VACCHI & STEPHANIE GONOT

I have chosen to focus on these two artists because of their simplistic approach to photographing food. I have chosen to use these artists together because of their similar techniques such as the monochrome theme that both these artists display and the careful organisation in which the objects in the images are placed.

The first two images below are the work of Isabella Vacchi. In these images I believe there are several areas of focus. Rule of thirds could be argues as neither have a centre object to focus on. By splitting the image into the grid for the rule of three, it’s easy to argue that that is the technique that has been used.

The lack of tone and colour in the first image gives off a very boring yet organised vibe – this is the sort of approach I want for my dietary photoshoots as that’s how the food of a bodybuilder is described: boring, simplistic but the food must be organised.

The next three images is the work of Stephanie Gonot. I feel her work is slightly more modern and slightly more unconventional. The idea that struck me was that the food had been purposely painted white. To me this implies no matter what the food looks like, it’s plain, boring, simple and tasteless. I feel this is a fantastic representation of how bodybuilders describe some of their meals.
