When looking at the theme of 'Power', I decided to focus upon human power and strength as I found this very interesting. I feel that human power can be interpreted in a number of ways, physical and mental. I used pinterest to explore the theme and found the images to the left. I used phrases such as: Power, Strength, Endurance, Athlete and Anatomy.

I feel theme images represent not only powerful bodies, but a powerful impact the photographer has been able to present to an audience through the use of high contrast and a wide variation of tones. Not only this. I've seen images that include double exposure, a 3D effect and a long exposure effect on fitness equipment. These images are interesting because of the digital/camera techniques used to possibly imply a deeper meaning. For example, the 3D effect looks like images layered together to create one image with more depth; from the number of images layered, the colours can represent different personalities for example, a blue layer could represent a calm side of the process in building power of patience and a red layer could represent the resentment of hard work and impatience. I feel that if I continued with a project focusing on bodywork, using different camera and digital techniques can represent more than what the individual photoshoot shows.

For the theme of power I have decided to continue with the idea of physical and mental power and strength. My idea is to use 'case studies' for my photoshoots to portray the hard work, perserverance and physical and mental capability of a person or people upholding a lifestyle dedicated to health and fitness. The idea behind this is to represent all aspects of this kind of lifestyle through photoshoots and photoediting; the physical appearance, the endurance, the dedication, hard work, and the effects physically and mental, positive and negative. The idea is to open up to the extremes of physical hard work and the metal impact it as on a person.

I have decided to start this project by looking into the life of a boxer - My grandad. This is where my idea will start and where I will develop from.

CASE STUDY:

My grandad is 74 years of age. In his late teens and early 20's, he was involved with amatur boxing with the potential and opportunity of professional boxing. He turned this down and was then involved in rugby. "I always loved boxing, but I loved rugby more. Being on a team was more exciting, when we came together and won we felt powerful." This is something my grandad had always said about his time in sport. It made me want to worth with my grandad as he felt there was always elements of power in his time doing these sports.
